This flowchart is intended to help the user of the 2009 IECC navigate their way through the requirements for low rise, residential construction such as single family homes, duplexes, townhouses and apartment buildings that are no more than 3 stories in height.

Note this flow chart does not address commercial buildings, which under the IECC include apartment buildings that are greater than 3 stories in height, as well as hotels and motels.

It is intended to serve as a supplement to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code. Separate purchase of the 2009 IECC from the ICC is required for use of this flowchart.
